Mandatory Wi State Expo Exhibitor Meeting - Sunday @ 1PM

First off everyone, I am so proud of you all and the hard work you put forth leading up to the fair. Whether your moments were glorious or not so hot you did a wonderful job and were a true showman. You got your leads. Nailed a pattern or part of it. Your horse was calm, cool and collected more so than before. Your horse may not have cooperated but that didn’t stop you and you forged on. Whether the victories were large or small you did it. Very proud of you and you should be proud of yourself too! For those of you that have qualified for the Wisconsin state expo. Meaning you earned a blue ribbon with your horse or pony yesterday at the state qualifying show in the state qualifying classes. We will host our state meeting on Sunday at 1 pm at the picnic tables by the horse arena. Where you can ask questions and sign up for the event and get that paperwork in along with payment.

Side note: Members in sixth grade and above have qualified to exhibit their horse at the state expo horse show only. All members are welcome and encouraged to exhibit in the educational portion of the event.

This also goes for educational events too! There are a plethora of opportunities there. We have to turn in all the paperwork together. So if you are planning on exhibiting in the educational portion please attend prepared to sign up. Here is a brief listing of what you can participate in.

  • Woodworking

  • Art

  • Judging

  • Model Horse

  • Vet Science

  • Photography

  • Poster

  • Creative writing

  • Team problems

I will have your state packets to be handed out at the meeting with all the information you need. At least I hope I got everything. ;)

A couple of things to think about as we head into tomorrow's meeting.

T-SHIRTS

We traditionally do t-shirts where on the back it is similar styling to a concert t-shirt with the names of the exhibitors exhibiting horses as they are representing throughout the entire show. Bring design ideas. Should we go with a motivational saying on the back followed by the names? I will make up an order form but I won't know prices at the time, but at least I'll have an idea of quantity.

BARN DECORATIONS CONTEST

Do we participate this year? If yes, we need volunteers to step up and organize this effort. What theme do you want to go with?

MEALS

I will have the sign up menu as you all traditionally have a family host breakfast, lunch and dinner each day of the show to help save on food costs, etc.

TEAMS

If you are interested in team problems you will need to gather a team of three or four individuals in your respective grade division. Junior is 3-8 and Senior is 9-13.

What is Team Problems? (PDF Page 41) A question is asked of 2 or 3 youth who will present an oral solution relative to the problem. Each member of the team is encouraged to contribute to the oral presentation. Examples of possible team problems might include:

  1. Balancing a horse’s ration.

  2. Farm management recommendations for specific horse operations, i.e. breeding, training, boarding, nursery, lay-up, etc.

  3. Considerations for the establishment of a new horse facility (stable to be used for specific purpose).

  4. Recommendations for selecting, locating and purchasing horses for specific uses.

  5. Behavior problems – causes, management of and corrections.

  6. Training and conditioning programs – equipment, schedules, methods, nutrition problem avoidance.

  7. Breeding and/or leasing contracts – specific clauses for insurance, liability, payments, care, termination, transport, etc.

  8. Explanation of use of specific equipment.

  9. Demonstrate ability to use specific equipment.

Judging To give 4-H youth an opportunity to develop and/or improve their ability to picture the ideal and recognize undesirable traits associated with judging horses. To provide an educational opportunity where 4-H youth can demonstrate their ability to employ deductive reasoning and incorporate practical considerations in a positive manner. To provide an educational opportunity for 4-H youth to demonstrate their ability to effectively defend the placings of a class. There is both team and individual for horse judging - A team can consist of up to 26 individuals from one county. The top 4 individuals will determine the team. The three highest scores for each team are added together to determine total team score. (Youth entering the contest as a team member are automatically entered as individuals as well.) There may be more than one winning team per county. See you tomorrow.

See PDF page 27 of the rule book for complete information.

I think that is about all of it. If I missed something we can cover it tomorrow. Please know we are in a time crunch per the state rules to get these entries in from our show date.

-j P.S. Please make sure to thank the volunteers that hosted the show yesterday when you see them.
